How to Increase Email Click Through Rates 10 Fold!

I am continuing a 2 part series on the whole topic of email list building and being successful at it.

This article will serve as the second part (I’ll be linking to the first shortly) and we will be covering how to make sure MORE people open up the emails you send them as well as the links you provide them within those messages.

To start things off, there’s several very important things you need to know about this topic:

In my previous article, I said that there were 5 parts to making this whole thing successful. That article covered 3 of those parts:

how to increase email click through rates

If you haven’t read that article or don’t know what the first 3 parts mean, please read it here, as then flowing into this article will make way more sense.

Note: If you don’t have an email list set up, here is a strategy to build an email list quickly.

Anyway, as the screenshot says, we’re focusing this article on parts 4 and 5 and together these 2 articles (the one I linked to you just now and the one you’re reading at this time) will cover the whole system of building a successful email marketing campaign from scratch.

Now that we have this covered, let me mention a few addition things before I focus on getting people to open up your emails and the links inside them:

First, it’s not exactly difficult to get a lot of people to opt in to your list in general, but depending on the type of audience you get will undoubtedly affect how that audience.

I can collect an list of thousands in a week on something like weight loss, but that audience is too diluted and broad and that will affect my profits substantially. I mentioned in the article I linked to you above that the right niche audience, the one which has a major problem and needs an immediate solution is the one you need to seek.

I also brought up 2 examples:

  • Women who need to lose weight for their wedding.
  • And people who have knee problems as the perfect niche audiences.

Those 2 audiences have a lot of traffic behind them. It’s definitely nowhere near as much as the general weight loss audience, but it is targeted WAY better so while I’ll get less opt ins, I’m going to get opt ins that will be buyer ready and that means I’ll make more money targeting them vs if I were targeting a general niche audience.

If this does not make sense to you, please let me know below so I can clarify 🙂

Anyway I am re-mentioning this whole thing because if you’re going to have people open up your messages, read them and click on the links you send them inside there, you need to make sure that audience is targeted to begin with.

So here are the tips to getting people to open up your emails (part 4):

Like I said, make sure the audience is VERY niche specific.

-Make sure your landing page is niche specific and that the traffic coming in there is also specific to it. This will basically ensure that they click on your followup messages when you send them out.

-Send your first email out immediately once an opt in happens and always include the name of the person who signed up in the title of that message. This adds a personal touch to things and helps people see your message way easier.

-Include messages that trigger the lead to open it. The key is this: If the niche audience is craving for solutions (the hungry kind), keep offering those solutions in your title, but offer 1 solution per message, otherwise, you’ll run out of ideas and you want to keep them with you for as long as possible.

For example: If your target audience is people with knee problems.

First message: Here’s your free book on 3 ways to solve knee problems (include the persons name).

Second message: 5 strategies to stop knee pain right now (include the person’s name again).

Third message: 5 foods that reduce knee problems.

Fourth message: This supplement helped me squat again (and of course use the persons name). This is also a selling message so include the link there and make sure to talk about the product in the message.

Fifth message: Have the knee solutions helped you (include person’s the name and a question mark).

-Mix in these tips in with the whole topic of the right niche audiences and I will not be surprised if you get double digit open rates on your messages and if you already are getting people to open up your messages, this will only help it grow by several times. I wasn’t joking when I said 10 fold! Believe me, this will do it.

Part 5: Maintaining a healthy email list for the long run.

If you can correctly nail down the first 4 parts of a successful email campaign, then the hard part is the last one and that is keeping the list active in that they communicate with you and continue to buy from you.

Now the best advice for keeping it healthy is this:

Stay consistent. Keep sending your subscribers follow up messages. I would recommend every few days, in some cases once a week. The key is to get them to remember you and expect to hear from you. One awesome way to do this is to set up follow up messages in your auto responder so you don’t have to worry about it. Programs like Aweber handle this for you so you can set up your follow ups once, program them to be sent out every X number of days and then let it run on it’s own.

I learned the hard way how NOT doing this consistent thing affects you. I once had a huge list of over 30k people run dry because I simply stopped sending them messages and by that time, I became a “who is that guy?” to them. If you get to that point you will lose your subscribers. Don’t make that mistake, unless you don’t care about your list anymore.

Send your list free information they crave, don’t always sell to them. Trust is what leads to sales and you can gain trust and your list to open up EVERY single email you send them by sending them good, free content that helps them out. I usually advice 4-5 emails of free advice and 1 that sells them something. Remember, you’re trying to gain trust and if you keep sending them info they like and that doesn’t have a catch to it (a sales pitch behind it), then they will look to you as an authority, a friend and someone they want to hear from.

-Don’t be too official in your message, be friendly, as though you were a friend sending another friend a message.

-Try to keep your followups with leads short. Maybe a few paragraphs, if you want to give them long content, simply place a link in your message and tell them the details are there.

-Ask them how they are doing and to get back to you with questions. If you communicate with your leads beyond just your followup messages, believe me, you will be able to gain their trust even more, so always do that. If they know you care, they will care too.

My final thoughts:

The more I engage in internet marketing and that includes email list building, the more I can tell you that the 5 parts to making it a success apply. In fact, it just becomes more and more obvious as I gain more and more experience on this.

You have to understand that people opt in to receive information when they crave it and when you give it to them in increments, in a friendly way, offer them free solutions and ask how they are doing, you are gaining their trust, their expectation to see more of your information and obviously, their trust to buy your recommendations.

Multiply that by several people, a craving niche audience and you can absolutely make an entire business out of this whole thing, a business that you can repeat in other niche topics as many times as you want.

Email marketing is an absolute goldmine if you utilize it correctly and these 5 parts I explained in these 2 articles will absolutely get you there.

Oh and if you’re wondering why…

I don’t do email marketing on this particular website, it’s because I focus mainly on affiliate marketing and SEO through it and it does very well for me, which is why I don’t want to interrupt it. I do email marketing campaigns on other niche websites and I have had a lot of success multiple times doing the same 5 things I showed you in this article and the one I linked you to before it.

  1. An email list is the most important aspect of any online business. You give some excellent tips on increasing your CTR. I know giving away an ebook is a popular way to get people to sign up to your list. Do you have any other recommendations for good giveaways? Also, is there a maximum number of follow up emails before the big offer? Is there a cut off point where your customer may start to get annoyed?

    • It varies. Some people say a 7 day email sequence before an offer is good, I say earn the trust of the subscriber before you pitch them anything, so what I do is provide an eBook, a training course (maybe 5 days) but no matter what, even after your offer, you should consider having the subscriber continue to receive quality stuff from you so when it comes to cut off points, as long as you provide them with good content, they won’t want to cut off. They will however if you send them too many promotional emails, so you have to find a balance.

  2. Hi there,

Great insight. I have a question though. Is it possible to know how many people open up my emails so I can stop sending emails to people who do not open them, is there a software to do this or a paid service that I can use please!

And is there a means to analyze how effective my emails are to see whether my email marketing is working or not?

    • Hi Dave, there’s a few things here:

      1) Yes you can see who opens your emails so you don’t resend multiple ones to the same person. Aweber is one of the best programs that handles this. It automates your email send outs and whoever signs up to your email list will receive the correct order of emails you set up in whatever sequence you put. You won’t have to monitor anything, the autoresponder will do that.

      2) As for seeing how effective your emails are for sales and opens, Aweber will show you how much of your followup/broadcast emails get opened by your subscribers, so you will be able to make adjustments on your subject/body.

As for the email itself, if you’re providing, say an affiliate link and you want to know how well it converts, turn it into a bit.ly link that will show you how many clicks it gets so you can cross reference that amount of times a certain email gets opened with the amount of clicks the affiliate link inside that email gets clicked, followed by how many times a sale is made. I hope this makes sense.
